How to Have a Quarter Life Crisis.

I feel generally gross this morning. But, in the midst of feeling gross and achey, I find the blessing of space and time to slow that I normally don't have. Time to reflect on the past almost 3 weeks since graduation and breathe. Since I took only 1 work day off after graduation before heading back into the grind, I haven't had a lot of time to really process this big change. I know three weeks isn't a significant amount of time to process, but let me tell you, the quarter life crisis feelings I was getting were fo-sho.

General Steps to a Quarter Life Crisis:
  1. Ride the Post-Graduation (or post-_fill_in_the_blank) high for approximately 1 week.
  2. Realize your 1st week back to work is what will indefinitely happen for an undetermined amount of time.
  3. Panic that you will be stuck inside of an office for at least 8 hours each day, 5 days per week.
  4. Reprimand yourself for not being grateful for having a good job with awesome co-workers.
  5. Realize you're missing out on a bunch of beach days, sunshine, unplanned friend dates, and continue panic here.
  6. Look ahead in your planner only to realize it's completely blank.
  7. Start thinking about moving to a different state or country.
  8. Look on the internet for a puppy to adopt because you've always wanted one.
  9. Think about coloring your hair any color that is unnatural to your own.
  10. Talk about marriage enough to scare your significant other. Because the QLC (quarter life crisis) makes you think crazy thoughts about how you need to make a drastic change immediately. Marriage. Why not?!
10a. Significant other gives you 100 good reasons why not.
10b. You say "okay fine" but look up engagement rings online.
  11. Feel like all of the hobbies and plans you've made currently are just not good enough. Freak out.
  12. Lather. Rinse. Repeat.
  13. Calm down momentarily. Crises are really exhausting.
  14. Allow boyfriend's pep talk about life to motivate and inspire you. New, beautiful life chapters.
  15. Start attacking stress about life through painting, journaling, music, shopping, laughing with new friends, and going to the gym
  16. Eat a lot of froyo. Good thing you're going to the gym more.
  17. Read lots of verses about God's promises to continually guide and protect you. Pray really fragmented, scattered prayers and hope that God understands what you mean (even though you don't even really know what you're praying for).
  18. Employ more self care tactics like beach time and cooking while wearing apron.
  19. Prepare self for future random feelings of insecurity about my future and current accomplishments by identifying my friends that are amazing supports.
  20. Move along. Breathe.

This was funny to read, but I am so sad that you're going through this girl! I believe it will get better for you. At least you're feeling all of it and not numb to the changes.
I love you!
